The Command for Emergencies, chaired by PM Emil Boc has analyzed the functioning of schools from areas with yellow and orange code alert over snow.
At the end of the meeting, PM Emil Boc has announced that, on the basis of the proposals put forward by school inspectorates, the Committee for Emergencies has decided to suspend school activities on Monday, February 8th, for pre-school and secondary education (1 to 8th grades) in Bucharest, as well as in counties such as: Teleorman, Ialomita, Giurgiu, Buzau, Calarasi, Dambovita, Dolj, Galati, Giurgiu, Olt, Prahova. In Arges County, the classes in the pre-school and secondary education will be suspended on Monday, only in: Ungheni, Mozăceni, Ştefan cel Mare, Popeşti, Slobozia, Bârla, Recea, Izvorul, localities hit by snowfalls.
In case in which the meteorological situation will further remain unchanged, the directors of schools and school inspectors from areas hit by snowfall, can request to the Education Ministry, until 4 .00 p.m., to suspend the classes during Tuesday too, and the Ministry is about to communicate publicly the list of counties and localities with closed education institutions, until Monday, by 5.00 p.m. “All school activities that could not be performed on Monday will be re-scheduled so that the curricula is entirely met. The school inspectorates and the directors of schools with suspended classes will put forward to Ministry a calendar for curricula recovery”, the Head of the Executive has stated.
PM Emil Boc has stated that 140 roads are blocked by snow, and the activity of harbors and airports takes place in normal conditions. “I asked the prefects, that in their capacity as chairmen of county commands for emergencies, get directly involved in the coordination and surveillance of the snow removal activity and pay maximum attention to persons blocked in traffic so that the life of anyone is not endangered”, PM has outlined.
The Secretary of State in the Ministry of Administration and Interior, Mr. Mihai Capra has showed that in the counties with yellow and orange code alert, all county committees for emergencies have been activated, and local authorities are ready to take the necessary measures.
In turn, the Secretary of State, Ministry of Administration and Interior (MAI), Mr. Dan Valentin Fatuloiu has mentioned that more than 3.000 employees of the Ministry are on the spot. “Action is being taken to remove the snow from Motorway A2, four national roads and 136 county roads”, the MAI official has stated.
Mr. Ioan Sandu, Director of the National Administration of Meteorology has stated that it is very likely that the yellow code is lifted for the following counties: Mehedinţi, Gorj, Dolj, Vâlcea and Olt.” For the other counties with yellow and orange code, the strong wind will continue to blow; there will be snowfalls, as the warning says, until tomorrow evening, y 2.00 p.m. Next evening, some counties in the east of the country are likely to remain under yellow code alert, and as of Tuesday, snow will cease to fall across the country, except for mountain areas”, the Director of the National Administration of Meteorology has stated.
