PM Emil Boc: I will propose a minimum programme of 50 scholarships for representatives of the Romanian-speaking Israelis, born in Romania, for them to be able to further improve their Romanian language knowledge, pursue studies in Romania and to continue our beautiful relationship
I had a meeting with representatives of the community of Israelis born in Romania. I have to present you some conclusions.
First, we found a common need to continue this beneficial relationship of Romania and Israel. I want you to know one thing: Israelis community born in Romania has a fundamental role in strengthening our relationship with Israel, and by what people here do, help us economically, politically and culturally, to strengthen this relationship.
Then, we discussed punctually what we can make the second and third generations, youth of the community of Israelis born in Romania, to keep in touch with Romania. They are still speaking Romanian and it is our common duty to future generations to maintain the conscience of belonging to Romania, to speak the Romanian and be proud of the places where their parents and grandparents were born.
From this point of view, we can do two things: first, I propose a minimum programme of 50 scholarships for representatives of the Romanian-speaking Israelis, born in Romania, for them to be able to further improve their Romanian language knowledge, pursue studies in Romania and to continue our beautiful relationship.
Second, the programs that we develop at the economic level, but also in tourism, we give the possibility to the elderly, and the youngest, to visit places where their parents, grandparents and ancestors were born. This will contribute to strengthening our ties and to maintain a common past that unites us.
I have said here today that, irrespective of how we judge ourselves and wherever we are, eventually the return to the source cannot be ever forgotten, and this must be capitalized, because it has beneficial effects at political and economic level.
I heard a phrase here that touched me today: we, those from Israel, born in Romania, we grieve or rejoice twice: we rejoice when the situation is well in Romania and here too, and we grieve when it is bad here and in Romania. And I think, by what we can do together, we can bring more joy here and home. And this is in the power of the Government.
We have also discussed about economic projects, we have presented Romania's strategy for investment, jobs, areas that can be continued further on, things we will discuss tomorrow with Prime Minister Netanyahu and other colleagues from the Government in Tel Aviv.
Reporter: Mr. Prime Minister, Mircea Geoana was removed from the Senate too. How do you comment?
PM Emil Boc
His removal was something predictable or, better said, the revocation of Mircea Geoana from the Senate position following PSD decision. From now on, the competition for the future President of the Senate is open. Coalition will nominate a candidate for the President of the Senate.
Reporter: From which party? And what is his name?
PM Emil Boc: Out of respect for coalition partners, for our colleagues with whom we are in partnership, we will present it publicly only after we discuss and we will consult among ourselves. I do not make these remarks in the media before we discuss this topic in the Coalition.
Reporter: Today, you have been in several places. What impressed you most? You visited several tourist attractions.
PM Emil Boc:
We had a brief moment in which, as any Christian, I was able to enjoy and live unique moments, as a Christian, and Romanian, visiting holy places. It is a moment that you never forget and you may have only once chance in life to live such moments even if the time was very short. A great spiritual moment, magic, that every Christian should live. Thank you very much.
