PM Emil Boc: We have behind the history that compels us and ahead, the future that makes us responsible

GUVERNUL ROMANIEI
GUVERNUL ROMANIEI

Unity, freedom and democracy are fundamental values consecrated by the Great Union of December 1, 1918, in Alba Iulia. An arch over the 93 years that passed from that milestone in our nation's history when the political will merged with the nation's will, proves that the triangle of values at the basis of modern Romania is now more actual than ever.

The evolution of the Romanian nation was marked, in key moments, by the feeling of unity, binder which made possible the great national projects.

The reality of recent years, although different in terms of history, shows us that we live one of the key moments in which we need solidarity and joint effort. It is time to think, first of all, what unites us rather than what divides us, to overcome current economic difficulties.

If in 1918, Romanians aspired to freedom and democracy, today, these values are full and enhanced by our membership to the European Union. Over a month, Romania celebrates five years since it joined the European Union. We are proud with our cultural values and identity in the Europe of nations.

Therefore, I welcome the initiation of media campaigns that recall values that sometimes we lose sight of. We have numerous examples of Romanians who, wherever they are, honor our country and define us as a people. It is time to re-find the joy of being Romanian and I want us to experience that feeling every day, not only in festive moments.

We have behind the history that compels us and ahead, the future that makes us responsible. Young people today need to remember the patriotism of predecessors who achieved the Great Union. We owe the creation of modern Romania.

We look with respect at the past and with confidence at the future! We will leave behind us a Romania internationally credible and a sustainable prosperity. We are facing a year which seems to be difficult all over the world. We need hope and confidence for a better future for the generations of today and tomorrow and I am convinced that the sacrifices of Romanians were not in vain.

Many happy returns of the day, Romanians from everywhere!
Many happy returns of the day, Romania!
