GUVERNUL ROMANIEI

PM Victor Ponta
I would like to say few words in Romanian, afterwards I switch to English. From the outset of my mandate as Prime Minister, I tried to persuade a great international personality, General Wesley Clark to accept a position we very much need, Special Adviser on strategic matters, on security and economic strategy matters. Beyond his being a personality, recognized not only in US but worldwide, he has accepted such a position to advise me in my capacity as Prime Minister of Romania in strategic and security matters, and in the economic field.
I have had today a first meeting and discussion in which the most important topics pertained to investments and Romania’s potential in the energy and agriculture areas. Obviously, we debated political problems too, but I apologized that he comes in a tense political moment, but strategy means long term and hopefully, I have a lot to learn and to benefit from the expertise and knowledge of a personality like him.
I will switch now to English and I will say once again that I am very proud and very happy that a personality like you has accepted to be a special Adviser on strategic, security and economic field, I am very grateful for this. I hope that the political momentum is not going to influence the future development of the country and I also hope that a country in which the institutions, the rule of law and the political stability is going to work, also, economic strategy could be put in place for the next ten or twenty years. Once again, I am very grateful, thank you very much and I give you the floor.

General Wesley K. Clark
Thank you very much, Prime Minister. It is an honor to be here, with you, in Romania. I am very excited about the opportunities that Romania provides to the world, with its strong economic potential, economic potential in energy, in strategic minerals, and particularly in agriculture. So, I am very happy to be here, to provide thoughts, to try to assist the Government and the people of Romania as you move forward with economic development and using economic development as the foundation of course for your strategy and for your security. Thank you.

PM Victor Ponta
I thank you very much. Of course, the Romania media is interested in strategy and economics but they are very much interested in the political situation, so I will leave, letting the Minister for the Relation with Parliament to answer all the other questions regarding the domestic politics. Thank you very much.
