The new website of the Government of Romania
The project aiming at the Government website reconstruction (www.gov.ro) started this spring.
The analysis conducted at the end of 2007 laid at the basis of requirements formulation. This emphasized the need to adapt the website to new technologies, improve the access to information and boost the interaction level between Government and citizens. The websites of the Governments of EU member states, United States, Canada and main states of Asia have been analyzed, the facilities provided to citizens - checked and the main technological trends –pursued.
The main objective was the creation of an efficient means of communication for Government, taking into account the large number of visitors accessing the website and also the widespread trend among people to access information of this type.
The efforts have been channeled on three directions: 1. a new graphic interface, information structuring and display in an accessible way. 2. Rapid publication of information on website whereby the creation of an easy possibility of site contents management by those producing materials for website; 3. Addition of new functionalities, complying with most recent technologies in the field and accessibility requirements.
The main challenges resulted from adapting the old data basis, with over 90.000 articles to the new structure and website interface and from the development of an easy interface for contents’ administration, specific to the Spokesperson Department’s method of work.
Developed and refined on a period of more than five working months, the solution meets all requirements and can represent a solid basis for further construction.
In the future, we aim at adding new facilities, such as web cast(live presentation on internet) of press conferences, a virtual tour of Victoria Palace, boost in the interaction level with the Government, whereby the website, on the basis of on-line forms, setting up of a data base to include visitors and fields of interest for which they want to receive newsletter information type.
