The Ministry of Culture of Romania, member of the Traduki network

The Ministry of Culture of Romania joins the Traduki network, a status which will help promote Romanian written culture in the German-speaking area, but also in the Balkans. Government approved a Memorandum on providing the necessary support to the Ministry of Culture joining Traduki, European network devoted to literature and books.

Traduki is a European network for literature, which includes Albania, Austria, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Switzerland, Germany, Kosovo, Liechtenstein, Macedonia, Montenegro, Serbia and Slovenia. Traduki was initiated by the Federal Ministry for European and International Affairs of Austria, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Federal Republic of Germany, the Swiss Arts Council "Pro Helvetia" KulturKontact of Austria, the Goethe Institute and S. Fisher Foundation.

The network aims at translating books of fiction and non-fiction books, books for children and youth, exchanges between authors, translators, publishers, librarians, critics and scientists, exchange of information and other forms of cultural cooperation between Member States.

The participation of the Ministry of Culture as a full member of the Traduki network will facilitate access of young authors from Romania to a dynamic audience (30 million readers in the Balkans and over 60 million in the German-speaking area). Also, the Romanian authors will benefit from translations from, and in the Southeast European and German languages, but also opportunities for collaboration with major publishers in geographical areas in which Traduki operates. Also, joining this network facilitates access to a broad base of volumes translated into Southeast European and German languages.

Traduki supports the financing of festivals, forums, meetings, seminars, conferences and other cultural events to promote literature, helping to ensure a higher profile of cultural events.

As a member, Ministry of Culture of Romania will have an annual financial contribution to Traduki network. In 2015, the contribution of the Ministry of Culture will amount to 20,000 euro.
